2002 Dallas Area Squash Tournament
Dear
Rishad,
It was very interesting to watch the refereeing going on at the
tournament. One thing I thought was a bit of a hitch was that the winner
usually wound up refereeing his own team. There was more than just a
little cheerleading between/during points. My services were made
available to Bo & he availed himself once. He really was very nice
about it and I got to referee one of Ken Stillman's matches early in the
day. It really was a very easy match to referee, unlike some of the later
ones Ken played. Ken and Bo both complimented me afterwards and did let
it be know to the Dallas players I was available and competent. Bo signed
off on the scoresheet & sent it back with me. When I see you in
person I can give more comments on some observations during the tournament.
Susan Morrison was wonderful and arranged for the women to play Sun.
a.m. at the Four Seasons and enjoy a little luxury and lunch. It made the
beatings of Sat. easier to bear. My Sat. opponents were ranked, 3.1, 3.5
& 3.2. I was able to take service away from every one of them, but
was not always able to keep the service. Playing again on 20 ft. courts
was a challenge. The Houston players provided good support to their
fellow Houstonians.
One of the unexpected tasks I received after refereeing was to take care
of an 11 month old at courtside while her father played. One never knows
where becoming a certified referee will lead!!
Thank you for the support of HSRA.
